How to Ensure You Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is one of the most beneficial health related activities that you can do. There is no doubt that a long nights sleep results in many health benefits, from brain function to body function. If you are struggling to get a good nights sleep, then follow this guide. It will help you get a better nights sleep, and point out what you are doing wrong.

Sleep is a very important thing. It is probably one of the most beneficial things to do, health wise. That's right. It is extremely important that you get enough sleep. Getting enough sleep means that you will benefit from muscle growth (great if you're doing the occasional workout in the gym), body growth (extremely important for teenagers and children), and much more. Not only that, studies have shown that sleep can help clear up your skin, in terms of acne. Not to mention the fact that your brain will function a lot better throughout the rest of the day. This is a great feeling, and means you work, and learn better, and faster. As you can see, sleep important. Are you struggling to get enough sleep? Here are some tips to help you fall asleep at night.

1. Turn off any kind of electronical device half an hour before sleeping: The lights that emit from laptops, phones etc. might actually be stopping you from getting your sleep. As you lie down to go to bed, if you haven't been on electronical devices, your eyes will feel relaxed, and your brain will feel as though it is ready for bed.

2. Get into a routine: If you get into a routine, when it comes time to sleep, your brain will realise what is going on. For example, if you have a shower, brush your teeth and head straight off to bed every night, your brain will realise this, and begin to shut down earlier. This is one of the most effective ways to get to sleep quickly. Make sure that your routine is a one that allows you to get enough sleep. Try not to get into a routine in which you stay up until 1, and wake up at 5. This will be hard to break after a while.

3. Breathe from your diaphragm: Breathing from your diaphragm is an effective way to calm yourself down. How do you breathe from your diaphragm then? It is easy. Put your hand on your stomach, and breathe in such a way that when you take a breath out, your stomach should go out (rather than your chest). The opposite should occur when you take a breath in.

4. Stop moving your legs: Get in one position, and stay in that position. One of the things that keeps people awake the most is thinking, "If I just move this leg I'll be comfortable." This does not work. So don't do it. If you are getting really irritated with the position you are in, then you probably should move, but most times you are actually over exaggerating it.

5. A milk before bed will calm you down: Milk will help you sleep, the only thing you have to watch out for is to give it a bit of time to digest (10 or so minutes) before you go to bed, otherwise you could be harmig rather than helping your sleep.

Following these steps, you should be well and truly on the way to a healthy, nice, comfortable long nights sleep. Good luck.
